The Degree
Bradley’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. The purpose of the program is to prepare graduates for a career in computer information systems including:

  • analysis and design
  • database and network design and management
  • applied computer science

In addition, all students are required to have supporting courses that comprise a core of general business courses and a supporting area. The supporting area requirement is usually met in the form of a minor.

Curriculum
Students in Bradley’s Computer Information Systems program work directly with faculty who regularly publish books, conduct scholarly research, and receive funded grants to enhance their focus on scholarly teaching. Among the outstanding faculty is Dr. Vladimir Uskov, who has:

  • received several National Science Foundation (NSF) grants
  • serves on NSF committees
  • is a member of a number of international committees regarding computing

Some of the specialized interests of Bradley’s Computer Information Systems faculty include:

  • Computer Systems Performance and Modeling
  • Computer Architecture
  • Distributed Computing
  • Computer Networks and Security
  • Data Mining
  • Cryptography

In addition, students in the program have the opportunity to work individually with a faculty member on independent research in some area of mutual computing interest.

Opportunities at Bradley
Outside of the classroom, Bradley Computer Information Systems majors have a wealth of cocurricular and cooperative learning experiences, including the group Women in Computing. Numerous internship opportunities are available through the Smith Career Center, allowing students to receive real-world business experience as an undergraduate.
