The Degree
Bradley’s Department of Biology offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in ecology and evolution.  The purpose of the program is to prepare graduates to comprehend and utilize the current interdisciplinary nature of scientific investigation, and emphasizes active, investigative learning techniques. Programs are designed for students interested in:

• medicine
• dentistry
• veterinary medicine
• biology
• secondary education
• biotechnology
• biochemistry
• environmental science
• medical technology

 Curriculum
The undergraduate program offers experimentation in:

• anatomy
• animal physiology
• behavioral ecology
• biochemistry
• cell biology
• developmental biology
• ecology
• field biology
• immunology
• microbiology
• molecular biology
• molecular genetics
• neurobiology

In addition to the requirements for the biology major, to receive the ecology and evolution concentration, students must have a GPA of greater than or equal to 3.2 in their major. Students must also complete a year-long EEB related research project. Prior to graduation, the Biology Department’s curriculum committee will review the completed research project to ensure the students have conducted research appropriate for the concentration.

Opportunities at Bradley
The Biology Department has an active NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site granted to provide a summer research program for a community of 10 undergraduates and their faculty mentors. Currently only 19 percent of such awards are made to undergraduate institutions nationwide. The program at Bradley is one of only two REU biology sites in the state of Illinois.

Biology majors are encouraged to go global. Within the Biology Department, the most extensive study abroad options are offered in Denmark. The University of Denmark in Copenhagen is an ideal destination for biology students, and offers programs in the following disciplines:

• Marine biology and ecology
• Molecular biology and genetics
• Environmental biology
• Medical practice and policy

Beyond Bradley
Bradley biology graduates enjoy a 92 percent placement rate. Biology majors’ acceptance into graduate and professional schools is outstanding. Graduates are accepted into many prestigious graduate programs, including programs offered at:

• Harvard University
• Washington University
• Northwestern University
• Southern Illinois University-Carbondale
• Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville
• University of Chicago
