A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

During my junior year of high school, I noticed a Bradley pamphlet lying on a lunch room table. Glancing at it, I wanted to find out more. So, when I got home I went to the university’s website. I felt an intriguing feeling of belonging and thought it was the perfect fit. The next thing I knew, I was at Bradley.

HANGING OUT WITH MY PROFESSOR

I took an honors seminar with Dr. Fuller and after a class discussion he asked me about my religion and if I’ve been to the temple in Peoria. As a Hindu from Kerala, India, I was not familiar with the temple and didn’t really even know one existed in Peoria. He asked if I wanted to check out the temple that week. He and his wife took me to services. We even went to lunch afterwards. He’s a great example of how the professors are approachable and very helpful. They are not just here to teach. Their care reaches beyond the classroom and campus.

I’M NOT JUST A ROOKIE

As a sophomore, I'm already working on a cure for Parkinson's disease. I'm not just cleaning the lab and doing inventory, although I do that, I am also playing a major roll in culturing neurons for the research of Professor Cady. With this neuro-physiology project, we hope to transdifferentiate non-embrionic, human mesenchymal stem cells into neurons that will be injected into the brain, replacing the lost neurons. This is something I didn't think I'd see until graduate school. Sometimes, I feel like I'm already there.
