A TRIP TO CHINA AND A $15,000 PRIZE

It's been a good year. Spring of my junior year, I went to China with a group of Bradley students and professors. After we got back, I went to nationals in Nashville, Tennessee, with the Speech Team, and finished the semester with my business team winning a competition that selected our business plan to be funded by a venture capitalist.

I can't wait to see how I top that my senior year.

I CREATED MY OWN BUSINESS

As an international business major at Bradley, I participated in the Project Springboard Business Plan Competition. The competition brings students real-life business planning experience and the opportunity to win $15,000 cash to help them successfully launch their new business venture. My team won.

My team and I created and proposed a business that would provide an interactive wedding guest book as our product. One of the members of our team, who is graduating, will actually run the business, while I and the other members of the team will act as shareholders and silent partners.

The opportunities that I have had at Bradley have shaped me into the person that I am.

I SPEAK THREE LANGUAGES

Not only do I speak Spanish and English, but I recently was able to learn Mandarin Chinese. I took a semester of German, just for fun.

Over spring break, I went to China with a group of other Bradley students and professors as an international business major. It was because of this trip that I was able to study Mandarin. Not only did I have the opportunity to learn about China both culturally and economically, but my travel abroad experience also counts as a course credit.

I came to Bradley for the outstanding Speech Team. Little did I know that my ability to speak would lead to opportunities around the globe.

I DISCOVERED WIND CHILL

While traveling with the speech team, I got to learn about wind chill. I had no idea what wind chill was. My fellow speech team members explained that wind chill can make it feel colder. I remember thinking, "How can it get any colder?" Needless to say, I haven't adjusted to winter very well.

I have to admit, coming from California to Peoria, Illinois, was quite the experience. Bradley was the only school in the Midwest that I applied to. I specifically chose Bradley for its outstanding Speech Team, however, it's the student relationships I have made here that I value the most.

Bradley University has shaped me as a person. It's not always been easy, especially when there's wind chill, but I've enjoyed myself and grown.
