Unlike most college students, I actually sleep at night. I am so busy that I am literally exhausted at the end of the day. Not only am I the VP of my fraternity, but I'm a student aide for freshman orientation, I work in the recreation center, I'm in Gospel Choir, and I play intramural basketball. There are just not enough hours in the day!
Next year, I will be a senior. I figure by then, I will know just about everyone on campus, including the president of Bradley. Considering we have approximately 6,000 students on campus, that's not as easy as it sounds. Not only have I met the president more than once, but she invited me to participate in several meetings with her. Also, for the past three years, I have been able to serve as an aid for freshman orientation. By next year, I will have met almost every incoming freshman at Bradley. That, in combination with all of my other extracurricular activities, makes me fairly certain that I know most of the people on campus, and they know me.
As an elementary education major, sometimes I stand out because I am the only guy in my class. It doesn't pose a problem for me, though. I'm very comfortable, and I think that a lot of people look at me and realize how passionate I am about my major, and my experiences. I knew since I was two years-old that I wanted to be a teacher. It is my first love because I come from a family that is full of teachers and values education. It's great to be able to work with kids and see them succeed. I feel that students need to be valued at all levels and all stages. At Bradley, not only have I been able to have a lot of experience in the classroom with students, but I have been able to figure out who I am and who I want to be for the rest of my life.
When I first visited Bradley, I was like a kid in a candy store. Once the tour started, I was like, "Look at that!" There were all these cool things about campus, even, that day, a trampoline in the middle of the quad. Bradley was the only school that I visited, and I knew right away that this is where I wanted to go. Bradley has everything I was looking for in a college. It is not too big, and not too small, and it has a good elementary education program. Also, it's not too far away from home, but not close enough where my parents can drop by for an impromptu visit. Bradley is the right fit. |
