WCBU News: "Undergraduate Cancer Research" (mp3)

Eileen Hillary, Washington, IL, Preprofessional Biology

I COULD BE HOLDING THE CURE FOR CANCER

I always knew I wanted to do something with science, I just didn't know what it was until I worked on a research project with a professor as an undergraduate. The experiences I've had while at Bradley helped me to get into the graduate school of my choice.

COLLEGE RESEARCH PAYS OFF

I worked on a research project with Dr. Cady. The ultimate goal was to develop a stronger chemotherapy treatment that goes right to the tumor without the negative side effects. Once we complete our research, it will be submitted to a journal.

SHOW ME YOUR SMILE

When I started at Bradley, I knew I wanted to major in science. I eventually shadowed a dentist and got to work in an orthodontics office. I always knew I wanted to do something with science, I just didn't know it was going to work out so nicely. The experiences I have been able to have while at Bradley helped me to get into the dental school of my choice.

I love the campus atmosphere and the small campus aspect. I love being able to meet one on one with professors, and having them know my name.

FROM DIVISION I TO DENTAL SCHOOL

I was recruited for volleyball by a few other Division I schools, and Bradley. I chose to stay close to home, and I was familiar with Bradley. So, I committed to Bradley before my senior year. Bradley was the only school I applied to.

I was fortunate enough to be able to receive an athletic scholarship for volleyball. The whole experience is incredible, and makes me very proud. Being a Division I athlete is quite an honor. I get to travel, and make friends that will probably stick with me for life.

Not only am I an athlete, but I am a biology major as well. My advisor helped me fit it all in into four years. Combined with volleyball, it was tough. It was a lot of hours. I attribute my experiences at Bradley as one of the reasons I got into the dental school of my choice.

My time here has been diversified. I am more than an athlete.
