Student Organizations

Joey Ortega, Rock Island, IL, Electronic Media

I TEACH BUSINESSES ABOUT FISH!

Some people think that I've joined every organization on campus. It's not true. Of the 240 student organizations on campus, there are at least 20 or so that I haven't joined…yet.

When I came to Bradley, I was invited to join the Lewis J. Burger Center for Student Leadership and Public Service. As a member of this organization, I was able to learn the FISH! Philosophy of leadership.

The FISH! Philosophy of leadership is derived from the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, Washington. Businesses around the world began using these principles as a customer service tool and to improve morale. I not only learned the FISH! Philosophy at Bradley, but I actually teach it to businesses in the community, as well as student organizations on campus.

In addition to being a Fish Philosopher, I am a member of Fellows, Mortar Board, and LINCS. While that might sound like a lot, I'm really no different than your typical Bradley student. Practically everyone I know is a member of at least one student organization, if not more.

It's all about making the most out of your college experience, and getting involved is the best way I know how to do just that.

LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU

My future goal is to be an executive producer for an entertainment TV show. I know that I will be able to use this philosophy and my experiences at Bradley long after I graduate.

My junior year, thanks to my academic advisor, I was able to attend the NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives) Conference in Las Vegas. During this conference, I met Michael Davies, producer of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and ESPN's 2 Minute Drill. He invited me to be an intern in New York the following year.

As it turns out, I was the only intern chosen to assist him in New York that year. My experience was invaluable. I know that I have contacts for next year when I apply for a job, and I am confident that I will be successful. Who knows, someday I could make you a millionaire, a loser, a newlywed, a feuding family, or put you in jeopardy. My options are practically endless.
